About Us

You may be intimidated at the thought of joining a gym, possibly lack motivation for online workouts - or even to exercise at all. This is where we can help. 

At Mammas Fitness, we’re passionate about women’s health and fitness at every stage of life. Founded by Claire Wellard with over 20 years experience as a fitness professional, our mission is to help women feel strong, supported and empowered. Whether you’re pregnant, recovering after birth, juggling life as a busy mum, or navigating through perimenopause, we are here for you.  

At Sherwood Studios you will find two beautifully modern, motivating spaces with a relaxed, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you are a complete beginner to exercise or an advanced athlete, your wants and needs are heard and a bespoke plan is carefully crafted and created exclusively for you. 

For all our post natal classes, babies are welcome from 6 weeks until early walking stages. There is plenty of space for them to play with our toys and crawl about in a safe environment. They learn to love the classes just as much as you do! We are very hands on with babies and nothing is too much trouble. Over 14 years of mum and baby classes means we have experienced a lot, so please don't worry if your baby needs a cuddle or finds it hard to settle. Baby-friendly facilities, indoor buggy parking, easy car parking and full equipment ensure your sessions are stress-free and effective. 

 

If you’re local, you might have seen our Buggy Exercise class out and about, making the most of the fresh air and local area. Claygate Recreation Ground is the perfect meeting spot for these sessions. Each customer is treated individually and cared for with their own unique after birth journey, as they heal, rebuild and strengthen their bodies again after having a baby.  

Mums looking to strengthen their bodies can find it difficult to know where to begin, let alone do it correctly. Again we’ve got you. We will help you find the path to a healthier, stronger, and above all happier version of yourself . A you that feels listened to, in control, fully capable and ready to face the world. Its not about being skinny its about being strong. 

More than just fitness studios and classes, Mammas Fitness is a community. Our classes offer a friendly, supportive environment where you can meet other local mums, share experiences and stay motivated together. With expert guidance and a focus on real results, we’re here to help you feel your best both inside and out. We want you to feel carefully guided and beautifully strong.

Our Story

Mammas Fitness began in 2012 as a small buggy workout with my NCT friends on Claygate Rec. What started as a casual get-together quickly grew as other mums stopped to ask if they could join. Before long, a supportive community was born. 

From those early buggy sessions, Mammas Fitness evolved into postnatal Pilates as I built my very own home studio. I then expanded into group classes, 1:1 training, and a wider range of holistic and rehab methods to support women further. I stopped working at the large gym chains as my own company organically grew. As the business thrived, so did my mission: to provide safe, effective and empowering fitness for women at every stage of life. 

​During a brief pause in 2024 due to my own health issues, I took the opportunity to expand the studio and create a beautiful new Reformer Pilates space. At the same time, demand for Reformer Pilates and women’s Strength Training grew significantly, shaping the next phase of my journey. I sought out other amazing instructors that shared my passion and vision and suddenly one person became a team of people. 

 

Today, Mammas Fitness is so much more than that first buggy class. We are a team of passionate instructors dedicated to supporting women. Whether you’re rebuilding, strengthening, or simply carving out time for yourself, we’re here to guide you. 

Life is busy, and as women we juggle so much but you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to support you, empower you, and show you what’s possible.

Claire Wellard

Founder, Principal Instructor

I began my career as a fashion journalist for women’s magazines, but in 2007 I followed my passion for fitness and retrained as a studio instructor and I’ve never looked back.  From Body Pump to spin, kettlebells to aqua, core stability to weight training,  I immersed myself in learning and teaching as much as possible and quickly built an impressive reputation at many of the big gym chains I taught at. 

In 2009, everything changed. A serious accident led to spinal surgery and the road to recovery was long and challenging. The physiotherapist who helped me walk again inspired me to explore a more holistic approach to movement. That's  when I discovered Pilates—not just as exercise, but as rehabilitation. It gave me my life back. I went on to train as a Pilates instructor and Personal Trainer, focusing on rehabilitation and helping others rebuild strength from the inside out.

After having my daughters in 2011 and 2013, I specialised in Pre and Postnatal Fitness. I became deeply passionate about supporting women through pregnancy and recovery, and over time developed a strong interest in pelvic floor health, diastasis recovery, and functional strength. 

In 2024, I faced another personal challenge. After navigating perimenopause, I experienced a severe prolapse that led to a hysterectomy and corrective surgery. This period gave me a renewed perspective and deepened my commitment to supporting women through every stage of life. I undertook further specialist training including Reformer and returned to my work with an even greater sense of purpose.

Shona Langridge

Reformer Pilates Instructor

After 25 years in corporate sales and marketing with brands including BMW, WaterAid and World Vision, I followed my passion and moved fully into yoga and wellbeing. 

  

My journey started with Bikram yoga, which still anchors my practice today, over 15 years on. I trained in Thailand in 2014 and have since taught internationally across the UK, USA, Australia and Europe. 

  

I now teach Bikram, Vinyasa, Yin, sound healing, reformer Pilates and mat Pilates. My work is rooted in one belief: yoga is a lifelong practice of growth, strength and self-discovery. 

“We all have to start somewhere and there is never an end to where yoga can take you… everything we do in our lives is some form of yoga.” 

I’ve trained in Vinyasa and Ashtanga in

in Rishikesh, Yin Yoga, Inferno Hot Pilates, and Tibetan sound healing in Nepal, which I now offer through private sessions. 

In 2025 I trained with APPI in London in mat and reformer Pilates, expanding my focus on strength, movement and longevity.

Kate Harris

Personal Trainer & Reformer Teacher

Exercise and sport have always played a central role in my life, shaping both my mindset and my approach to wellbeing. As a keen runner and endurance athlete, completing a marathon in 2019 sparked a deeper interest in strength training, injury prevention, and long-term performance.

 

That passion led me to retrain as a qualified Personal Trainer and Reformer Pilates teacher in 2024, combining evidence-based training with my own experience in endurance sport. I specialise in building strength, improving muscle tone, and helping clients feel stronger, fitter, and more confident through intelligent, sustainable training.

 

In 2025, I expanded my expertise into nutrition, focusing on weight loss and athletic performance to support clients in a more holistic way.

 

Whether working with beginners or experienced athletes, my approach is supportive, motivating, and results-driven — creating enjoyable sessions that build confidence, consistency, and long-term healthy habits.

At our core, we believe women deserve more than just a workout. They deserve complete, compassionate support for every stage of life. Fitness is only one piece of the wellness puzzle, which is why we work alongside a trusted network of women’s health specialists, including menopause experts, physiotherapists, rehabilitation professionals, doulas, kinesiology practitioners and nutritionists to name but a few. We don’t simply recommend these experts but we actively refer you and collaborate with them to ensure your care is connected, personalised, and truly supportive. Your body, your experiences and your goals deserve a team that understands the bigger picture, so you can feel strong, supported, and empowered in every aspect of your wellbeing.
